許多電玩迷都對於當年在任天堂紅白機上的經典遊戲《超級瑪利歐兄弟3》(Super Mario bros. 3)的狐狸尾巴印象深刻，現在在新式代主機3DS上也看的到！

之前在NDS平台上的《新超級瑪利歐兄弟》(New Super Mario Bros.)，續作《新超級瑪利歐兄弟2》(New Super Mario Bros. 2)在3DS平台上登場，《新超級瑪利歐兄弟2》的封面就直截了當地告訴你，這次的瑪利歐「金碧輝煌」！

在店頭的試玩機台，玩家可以看到本作有飛天狸貓、金環與黃金花這三項特色。從這三項特色出發，整個遊戲都可看到不同的機關，搭配這三項特色則會更具挑戰性。而許多復刻至三代的機關卡之機關，相信也可讓許多從一代開始遊玩的老玩家相當懷念，甚至可以指出某個機關是來自哪款遊戲。
