國聯外卡兩支領先隊伍正面交鋒，由海上的掠奪者拿下勝利。
22日海盜主場迎戰紅人，海盜在投手群有效壓制紅人打者的情況下，終場以4比2取得勝利，也取得國聯外卡排名第一的領先位置。
海盜先發投手A.J. Burnett表現神勇，主投7局僅責失2分，並送出12次三振，漂亮拿下個人本季第9勝。
「他真的很棒，給了球隊需要的先發表現。」海盜捕手Russell Martin如此稱讚Burnett：「他保持了高水準的演出，並有效執行他每一次投球，主宰了整場比賽。」
另外Burnett也在此役投出本季第200次三振，成為海盜自2004年以來首位單季200次三振以上的投手。
「是的，這對我來說是件挺光榮的事。（單季200次三振）」Burnett賽後表示：「但若少了蹲在本壘板後方那傢伙我絕對辦不到，今晚他也有重量級的演出。」 (接下一頁)
