達爾文演化論

達爾文主義是與生物演化有關的一系列運動和概念，其中也包含與查爾斯達爾文無關的思想。隨著時間的推移，「達爾文主義」的含義已經發生了變化，這取決於誰在使用這個詞語。在美國，「達爾文主義」經常被創造論者作為貶義詞使用。但在英國，這個詞並無貶義，它用來指代演化論。
這個詞語是由托馬斯亨利赫胥黎在1860年創造出來的，那時候被用來描述演化概念，包括早期的概念，諸如馬爾薩斯主義和斯賓塞主義。到了19世紀晚期，它開始代表「自然選擇是唯一的演化機制」這個概念。與拉馬克主義相比，在1900年左右，直到達爾文和格里哥·孟德爾的思想統一成現代演化綜論以前，它一直被孟德爾定律所掩蓋。隨著現代演化綜論的發展，這個詞語有時候會與特定的思想聯繫起來。
後來，只有科學作家還在使用這個詞，於是它越來越多的被認為不適合用來描述現代演化綜論。例如，因為達爾文並不熟悉格里哥孟德爾的理論，所以對遺傳僅僅有含糊和不準確的認識，對遺傳漂變更是一無所知。
