前民進黨立委蔡同榮今（11）凌晨因出血性腦中風引起多重器官衰竭，病逝台大醫院，立法院長王金平表示，蔡同榮對民主運動與台美間外交關係著力甚深，並做出許多貢獻，他的過世是國家的一項損失。

王金平上午表示，蔡同榮是他台南一中的學長，過去兩人在立法院共事期間，蔡無論是擔任黨鞭或立委，兩人都有非常好及密切的互動。

王金平說，蔡同榮有很多政治理念及目標，公投法就是在蔡同榮推動下完成立法，這是在台灣的政治史上產生很重大影響的法案，此外，蔡同榮對民主運動與台美間外交關係上著力甚深，對民主進步有相當的貢獻，如今病逝可說是國家的一項損失。
