遊騎兵隊守護神Joe Nathan關門失敗，洋基隊在9局上攻下2分，後來居上。9局下Mariano Rivera上場「示範教學」救援成功，洋基隊以5比4逆轉勝，Joba Chamerlain拿到今年首勝。
洋基隊第9局的反攻，從一出局後開始，Vernon Wells獲得保送，Eduardo Nunez敲出三壘安打，打回追平分，Brent Lillibridge再補上安打，Nunez跑回本壘，洋基隊就此逆轉。
Nathan失神的關鍵，是一記暴投。面對Nunez的那個打席，2好2壞後，Nathan出手時腳滑，成為暴投，也形成滿球數。下一球，Nunez擊出中外野深遠三壘打。「我唯一想重來的，就是那記我打滑才出現的暴投，」Nathan說，「他不會去打一記偏離30英尺的球吧？要是我那一球可以投得像樣些，起碼可以為滿球數對決製造有利局面。」
為洋基隊敲出致勝安打的Lillibridge，其實是戴罪立功，6局下他在三壘防區的失誤，害球隊多掉了4分非責失，並陷入3比4落後。「我還能夠彌補這一切，並幫助球隊獲勝，實在太高興了。」Lillibridge說。
此役之前，兩隊守護神各有31場救援成功，Nathan連15次成功關門，但這回失手，還吞下本季首敗。9局下Rivera投出三上三下，還有2次三振，獲得本季第32次、生涯第640次救援成功。 (接下一頁)
