英國電訊報報導，一位逃亡西方的北韓情報官員描述北韓政權的偏執狂和混亂，由於害怕金正日被暗殺，北韓的國內情報機關疑神疑鬼，無所不用其極防範真真假假的各式陰謀。這位情報官員自名Mr K，關於謀刺金正日 (1994e;fn 2011年統治北韓)的兩次計畫，Mr K有一手知識。不過，英國媒體報導他的話說，他對金正恩所知不多，只表示，暗殺金正恩可能不容易，因為每個見金正恩的人都被侍衛搜身 (patted down)，包括他自己的家人。
